I have a website for my business as a freelance makeup artist, but I'm not giving out the addy just yet... since it has no photos on it! All that's there are my preliminary bio and pricing info, plus some blank pages where photos are supposed to go.
I've been doing makeup in the salon, and here and there freelance, but I've never had a big enough personal kit to really feel confident enough to advertise. It feels like it's been "in the works" FOREVER!!! But the day is coming soon and I have a photo shoot arranged to jump-start my online portfolio and I'm so excited (and a little nervous). The shoot's in the beginning of November, and my hope is that by the beginning of December to be able to start networking and promoting full force. I can't wait to see the end result of the photo shoot, since I've done some other "work for photo" shoots and never received a single photo. This time we're shooting at my house and the photographer is someone I actually know, so I know it's going to work out awesomely.

What I'm Loving Right Now: Early Fall
Murad Skin Perfecting Lotion
I have been using the Skin Perfecting Lotion since the
beginning of July and I have been loving it to death. It's a bit pricey, yes, and it does not have sunscreen, but if you read my summer post about the Jane Iredale Mineral Powder, you'll see why I don't find the lack of SPF a problem. What it DOES have is Retinol for refining the skin and promoting the production of collagen, and Grape Seed Extract for promoting healing and fortifying the skin against sun damage. Because it's super light it's great by itself for oily skin, as well as dry or aging skin under a more emollient cream. In fact, Murad sells the exact same lotion in different packaging in both their Acne line and their Anti-Aging line.
Express Studio Stretch Columnist Pant It's been a couple of years since I bought any slacks... leggings being the wardrobe love-of-my-life, but when I recently realized my last living pair had definitely faded, I knew it was time to replace them. I'm sure you can imagine how excited I was just days later to find a coupon in Details Magazine worth $25 off a $50 purchase at Express. I had never shopped there before. I'd admired displays from outside, and even browsed the accessories, but never purchased a single thing. (Notice my personal info includes the title "Dimestore Fashionista"!) This time I tried on every style they had, and boy oh boy, do I love what I found!! The Columnist Pant is my favorite dress slack EVER!!!! It's so hard for me to find pants that fit (thus my obsession w/ leggings) because I have a small waist & upper hip, but fuller in the upper thigh. Long waisted, too. These pants fit perfectly and I could NOT stop looking at my butt in the mirror the day I wore them to work! (Uh, yeah, I work where there are a lot of mirrors, ok?) The regular price, btw, is $60, so I'm hoping to land another fantastic coupon to buy a second pair. ;o)

Avalon Organics Vitamin C Balancing Facial Toner If you like products that you can actually FEEL working on your skin, you will LOVE this toner. I bought it in a pinch when I was broke, to temporarily replace the Vitamin-C toner I was using from a much more expensive line. What I found was that I love it even more. (It was only around $8 at Target.) Click on the link to see all the amazing ingredients and what they do! The reason I feel it "working" is probably the papaya extract, which dissolves a protein called keratin which holds the dead skin cells onto your face. (Ew! LOL) Another star ingredient is Vitamin-C, which protects against free-radicals and promotes production of collagen & elastin. The only draw-back for me is that it is not in a spray bottle and I like to spray my toner onto my face & let it soak in a bit before applying moisturizer, but I easily remedied that by re-using my old toner bottle.

I Haven't Forgotten!
I haven't forgotten about this blog, I promise! And I promise to myself that I'm going to post something this week. I really hope to post something every week, and it will be easier since I have my days off to myself, with kids back in school! I'm going to post part 2 of the summer things that I loved (even though it is fall now) and a little update on something exciting for me! Look for it Wed or Friday.

What I've Been Loving This Summer
Every so often I have to tell the world about something I've been loving, and the day has come for my late summer list. Tonight I'll tell you about what I've been loving on my face and lips this summer!
Jane Iredale Mineral Foundation I use Jane's makeup in the salon and I was already convinced of it's ability to give a radiantly natural coverage on the skin. What I hadn't really tested was the UV protecting claims (both the Loose and Pressed foundaions have SPF 20), and above all the claims of being even more waterproof than the waterproof sunblocks. Two weeks ago I went camping and for that whole week I did not wear any sunblock on my face other than the Amazing Base Mineral Foundation (loose). I laid in the sun, I sweated, I went swimming, I laid in the sun some more. Other parts of my body burned (due to my inability to spray sunblock everywhere, lol) but MY FACE DID NOT!!! I admit, I was a little nervous the first day, but by the end of the week I was truly amazed. This is the best news ever because, folks, the sun is your face's enemy. Really. And I bet I don't need to tell you why!
Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick SPF 18 in Coral Shimmer I love this lipstick for so many reasons. First of all, the particular shade that I'm mentioning goes with EVERYTHING. It's a sheer color that hovers between pink and peach with gold shimmer. <3 It's so very creamy and lightweight (not sticky), I like it better than all my lip glosses. Plus it has an SPF of 18, and what's not to love about that!?
Sephora Collection Lash Stretcher I received a sample of this lengthening mascara with my last Sephora order, and I will definitely buy a full size when it runs out. The Lash Stretcher has fibers which cling to the lashes, making them look longer. The applicator is curved, which lifts & curls, while making it easier to get all my lashes without smudging my skin. *One word of advice: the fibers cling and go in the right direction more easily if you jiggle your hand back & forth while applying.
